Sheridan's has consistently the best frozen custard in the midwest (from my limited experience)! It's creamy, smooth, and there's always an interesting special available. They have concretes (custard blended with toppings), sundaes, milkshakes (get the chocolate banana!!!), and blended coffee drinks. Some of my favorites are the pumpkin pie custard, with chunks of pumpkin pie blended into vanilla custard, and the red velvet raspberry concrete, a special for Valentine's day. These are both seasonal specials, so they're only available at certain times of the year. Bummer. The prices are a bit steep (around $5 an item), so it's definitely not an every day treat! Get a Sheridan's points card - you earn points for everything you buy, which you can trade in for ice cream treats!

We love this place. Custard is so creamy and good. What did surprise me was when I tried a hotdog on a whim and it was very very good. Love it when you get a good surprise.

This is the best frozen custard I have ever had!

After some hard core Christmas shopping (and seeing the line out the door at Chipotle), I was in serious need of caffeine and sugar! There was no line for the drive through, so I went for it. $5 later I had a large Mocha Almond Wowiechino. It tasted super watery...they added way too much ice. It doesn't give you any showcasing of the luscious custard or adrenaline pumping espresso. So, rely on ::coughstarbucks:: for coffee drinks, and stick to traditional custard creations when ordering Sheridan's Frozen Custard.

production, as others mentioned, was slow, mostly because the teenage staff that works there need time to chat to each other. Not a great idea with walls of glass and I can see you wasting my time. Also, cleanliness is an issue. Saw one kid cut up my banana for my smoothie without a glove, in his palm, with a sharp knife. Then he left the rind on the counter. Gross and unsafe. I used to work at Sheridan's and none of these things would have been acceptable a few years ago. Seems like it's time for a new manager...

St Louis has some great custard stands. Sheridan's does not disappoint, as an alternative in KC. Took the fam there this evening, after the soccer match at Livestrong to watch Sporting KC defeat Salt Lake for an astounding 6-0 record. Euphoria from the match not withstanding, I also enjoyed the custard. Yes, a bit pricey, but most custard places are ... and I'm a tightwad. Had the mocha almond concrete, and sampled the worms and dirt concrete, and reeses peanut butter cup concrete. And, my kids with the chocolate shakes liked them too much to give me an opportunity to sample. The production process is slow. However, the crew there was visible, and did not appear to be lolly-gagging. It was a busy night at the window and drive-thru. I wouldn't recommend the drive-thru, given the slow production time. (Especially with gas at $4.00 a gallon.) Not sure about the comment from a couple years ago about the concretes being bland, from the guy who says he's sampled many concretes in his day. I found the flavors to be sufficient - not overpowering, but ample to differentiate one from another and to make their respective marks. Yes, they do melt quickly. Again, not sure what makes that a deal killer. As for NY, try Abbott's in Rochester. Very tasty, too! (but, also about a 6-hour drive from NYC.)

The product is fantastic, the service is s-l-o-w. For three small cups - one chocolate and two vanilla, nothing extra, it took about 7 minutes in line (acceptable) and 20 waiting. The place was a mad house and they definitely need to open up more than one window and figure out a way to increase the flow of traffic. In short, sure, it's worth it, but it's a really long wait.

I've always adored Sheridan's - I prefer custard to ice cream any day, and I love to support local. But dear lord - I just had the best concrete ever over the weekend. The Brownie Bling Pothole (a stupid name, but who cares) - vanilla custard blended with peanut butter and brownie bites, then filled with hot fudge. Pardon me while I wipe up this drool. Why on earth have I ordered peanut butter cup concretes for the last 10 years when I could have had THIS?!?!?

THEY DON'T MAKE THESE ANYWHERE IN NY! I love Sheridan's! Frozen custard, egg-based cool confection... who knew it'd be life changing? I don't think I've ever had anything like it, and I know it's good because their plain vanilla and chocolate swirl twist can stand on its own and make me fall to my knees and willing to do anything a crackhead would do for crack... for a cup of this stuff!!! (Just kidding, but not really...) So I will tell you Sheridan's, like those stupid high-school yearbook signers who vowed to keep in touch and now you have no clue where they are... DON'T EVER CHANGE! But I actually mean it, and WILL someday make my return back to Kansas and eat you again. ::heart::

Murray's isn't open all year round, so this is my winter stop. The grasshopper and the chocolate shake are great. Also love the blended root-beer float. Prices seem ridiculous, but I keep going back. I would love it if they had kid (smaller) sizes of everything. No one needs that much ice-cream.

Bland! I have had a lot of frozen custard in my day and this was one that I will not go out of my way for. I had a Grasshopper and a Wedding Cake and both had little flavor to them.

Who knew custard could be frozen and made into a decadently rich creamy frozen cup of bliss??? When we first moved to KC, pelple kept telling us to go, and we did. If you have never been, there showcase dessert is the Cadillac of "Blizzards". Its' frozen custard (it tastes like really RICH ice cream) mixed in with any combo of candy, syrup. sauces or fruits. They have a menu from which to choose of you do not want to play Dr, Frankenstein and create your own monster. My favorites are the Brownie Bling Pothole Sundae Concrete (imagine, your choice of custard-vanilla or chocolate--with brownie bits, peanut butter and a hot-fudge pothole in the middle...ooooooo...YUM. This adds new meaning to death-by-chocolate) The Wedding Cake concrete has--you guessed it--WEDDING CAKE. (OK smarty pants, it isn't someone's leftover wedding cake, but it's white cake with buttercream icing mixed in). The Key Lime Pie concrete is seasonal and also scrumptious. The other thing I like is that they will give free doggie scoops! Take your furry pal and share the frozen love! (WARNING-the small and large sizes can be daunting even for those of addicted to sweets....I prefer the "mini" size but sometimes the staff can get weird about making certain types of concretes in a mini. You either have to INSIST that they make what YOU want in the mini size or just give up and come back later. (Example is a mini Brownie Bling. They can't make the fudgie pothole in the mini size, so they just mix it in.....this is FINE with me, but some of the employees just say WE CAN'T make THAT flavor in a mini. Sometimes I have go straighten them out and tell them HOW they do it....and I don't even work there) For the inconsistent and sometimes brain-challenged servers, I give them a three of five stars. If this rating were JUST based on the food-it would be a FOUR!

This is one of the best places I have ever had my Sundae!! I had tried the Razzle Dazzle Sundae as well as the Mother-in-law Concrete. The ice-cream was so soft that it melted like cotton candy. The fruits were fresh. Perfect on a 14 degree day at a drive-thru!
